Physical Therapy

Physical therapy and chiropractic treatment complement each other perfectly. Both disciplines treat a wide range of musculoskeletal problems using techniques that are similar in approach and philosophy. Boca Health & Wellness Center offers a variety of physical therapy methods in tandem with chiropractic treatment and techniques in order to target multiple health issues, including:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Joint Pain (Shoulder, Hip, Knee, Ankle)
  • Bursitis
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Rotator Cuff Damage
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Sports Injuries
  • Herniated Disc
  • Sciatica
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Whiplash
  • Injuries due to car accidents and other trauma
  • Orthopedic rehabilitation

No matter what specific ailment you may be suffering with, our goal is to first reduce pain, and then to restore mobility and function. We also work to ensure that permanent injury is prevented, and we provide the treatment and the tools to help you avoid relapse or future injury, which we accomplish with treatment and instruction.

When we meet a new patient, Dr. Caruso does a close orthopedic and neurological examination of their condition, which includes a detailed medical history and a thorough series of x-rays. Once we fully understand the scope of your condition, we will create a physical therapy plan that will target the specific area where you feel pain and that takes into account any existing physical limitations.

Exercises, Bodywork, and Expert Guidance Create a Complete Physical Therapy Regimen

For each patient, physical therapy involves a combination of exercises and therapies. Though there are many exercises that we may assign to you to accomplish the objectives necessary to thoroughly treat your condition, all exercises work to increase flexibility, strength, and stamina. Among other things, your regimen may include weight lifting and stretching. We guide patients through exercises in the office, and we also assign a series of drills to do at home between sessions to build and maintain forward momentum.

Bodywork, or manual therapy, includes massage, mobilization, and manipulation. Massage works to relax the muscles, reduce deeply held tension, and increase circulation in an injured area. Mobilization involves a series of movements in which we slowly pull and twist on a patient’s limbs to gently stretch stiff muscles and restore a more complete range of movement. Finally, manipulation involves quicker, sharper movements to move bones and joints back into their proper place.

Physical therapy treatments may incorporate any of the following:

  • Moist heat/cold pack
  • Manual Therapy
  • Massage
  • Therapeutic Exercise
  • Neuromuscular Re-education

To prevent permanent injury and to keep similar injuries from happening in the future, Dr. Caruso counsels each patient on the best and safest ways to go about their daily activities, as well as any specific activities that put the patient at repeat risk of injury. By making a few small changes to your form and habits, you can often decrease pressure and strain on your body and continue to enjoy the activities you love without pain.
